The Canada Files is very proud to be the media sponsor of this August 29 event, “Ending US Aggression on Cuba is Key to World Peace”, co-sponsored by the Canada-based International Manifesto Group (IMG). Today, Cuba is at the centre of foreign policy in the US, Canada, the UK and other countries and thus directory related to the quest for world peace, We are therefore pleased to welcome all panelists:

  • Iroel Sánchez: Cuban Journalist & Editor of La Pupila Insomne, Director of La Pupila Asombrada

  • Carlos Ron: Venezuelan Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs

  • Chris Hazzard: Sinn Fein MP

  • Helen Yaffe: Author, We Are Cuba!

  • Arnold August: Journalist & Author of 3 books on Cuba

  • Fiona Edwards: No Cold War, Stop the War Coalition National Officer, Writer

  • Manolo De Los Santos: People’s Forum & Tricontinental Institute

  • Camila Escalante: Kawsachun News

Radhika Desai, Professor of Political Studies at the University of Manitoba & Geopolitical Economy Research Group director, will be serving as the moderator of the event.

We are grateful that, in addition to the IMG, the other sponsors (Geopolitical Research Economy Group, The Black Alliance for Peace, No Cold War, and Tricontinental Institute) have joined us. Of special interest is the honour to have as one of the panelists Iroel Sánchez from Cuba.

Iroel Sánchez Espinosa holds a degree in computer engineering from the Universidad Tecnológica de La Habana (CUJAE). He has served as director of Casa Editora Abril and president of the Cuban Book Institute. From 2000 to 2009, he chaired the organizing committee of the Havana International Book Fair.

  • He is the founder of the La Jiribilla cultural journal.

  • He founded and coordinates the development of the EcuRed collaborative encyclopedia, the Cuban version of Wikipedia.

  • He edits La Pupila Insomne, one of the most widely read blogs in Cuba.

  • He is a member of the Cuban Journalists' Union and has sat on the International Committee of the World Gathering of Bloggers.

  • He has lectured at universities in Cuba, Spain, Brazil, and Venezuela and has spoken at international communication and computer science events in Latin America and Europe.

  • He is a regular contributor to the TeleSur, Al Mayadeen, and Russia Today international television channels.

  • He directs the television program La Pupila Asombrada.

Iroel Sánchez is one of the most important voices in Cuba opposing not only US direct aggression towards Cuba, but also indirect US-led "colour revolutions" destined for Cuba and elsewhere. His concern about this subversion is shared by The Canada Files as these destabilizing efforts constitute a threat to peace.  We are very much looking forward to his presentation. In the next notice for this event, we will highlight the other panelists.
